Hue Museum of Royal Fine Arts

Long An Palace housing the finest collection of Nguyen imperial objects

Housed in Long An Palace inside the Imperial Enclosure, the Hue Museum of Royal Fine Arts holds the most significant collection of Nguyen dynasty objects in Vietnam — bronze ritual vessels, ceramics, jade carvings, royal furniture, embroidered imperial robes, and weapons. The palace itself, built in 1845, is one of the best-preserved structures in the Citadel complex, with elaborate woodcarving covering its interior columns and screens.

The collection spans six exhibition rooms. The most striking pieces are the imperial robes embroidered with dragons and phoenixes, the inlaid throne furniture, and the bronze censers used in ritual ceremonies. Allow an hour. The museum is at 3 Le Truc Street inside the Imperial Enclosure; admission is included with the general Citadel entry ticket.

A story
The museum is housed in Long An Palace, built in 1845 for Emperor Thieu Tri as a private retreat for reading and composing poetry. After France took control of Vietnam, the palace served as the residence of the Governor-General of Indochina before being converted into a museum in 1923.
