The Tomb of Dong Khanh is one of Hue's quieter imperial tombs, begun for an emperor who reigned under heavy French influence and completed by his successors. That complicated moment shows in the architecture: traditional Nguyen dynasty layouts sit beside painted decoration, glass, and details that feel less austere than the older royal tombs.
It is not as grand as Minh Mang or Tu Duc, which is part of the appeal. The site rewards travellers who have already seen the major tombs and want to notice the shift from confident imperial ritual toward a more colonial, hybrid style.
