Ky Co Beach

Ky Co is a secluded beach about 25 kilometers south of Qui Nhon, accessible only by boat from Nhon Ly fishing village or by a combination of road and short boat crossing. The water here is a remarkable shade of turquoise — shallower and calmer than the main city beach — and the hills behind are covered in low scrub that keeps the beach shaded in the late afternoon.

The boat trip from Nhon Ly takes about 20 minutes and the boats run frequently in good weather. The beach itself has basic food stalls and sun loungers for hire, but no large-scale development. The snorkeling near the rocky headlands is good, with clear water and healthy coral. Go on a weekday if you can; Vietnamese holiday weekends see the beach fill quickly.

A story
Ky Co was largely unknown even to Vietnamese travellers until drone photographs of the lagoon began circulating online around 2014. The images — turquoise water, white sand, green hills — were so striking they looked artificial. The place is real, though access remains controlled by the local fishing cooperative, which charges a modest entry fee and limits visitor numbers, keeping the beach considerably calmer than Ky Co's Instagram reputation might suggest.
