Qubbat al-Bakiriyya

A small domed Ottoman tomb near the larger Bakiriyya mosque

A modest domed building from the Ottoman period, the Qubbat al-Bakiriyya stands beside the larger Al-Bakiriyya mosque inside the old city walls. It marks the tomb of a 16th-century Ottoman notable, and its single-domed form is a small jewel of Ottoman provincial architecture: tightly proportioned, finely whitewashed, and far from the more grandiose Yemeni mosques nearby.

Easily missed in a walk through the souk, the building is one of the smaller gems of the quarter. The exterior is the visit; the interior is generally closed.
