Things to Do

The old city of Sana'a is the main attraction, and exploring it on foot takes priority over any specific site. The walled medieval quarter — a UNESCO World Heritage Site — packs hundreds of tower houses, dozens of mosques, and the maze of the great souk into about a square kilometre of dense urban fabric. Allow at least a full day to wander, and longer if you have it.

Beyond the old city, a few landmarks are worth seeking out: the ruins of the ancient palace, the great mosque, the rock-perched Dar al-Hajar in Wadi Dhahr, and the gate of Bab al-Yemen. Use the filters below to browse by category.

Note: Yemen has been in a state of severe conflict since 2015 and travel is not possible for most visitors. This information is preserved for when the situation changes.
