A green slope of mature Moreton Bay figs and lawns running down to the water at the western edge of the Balmain peninsula, Elkington Park is the suburb's favourite stretch of foreshore. The harbour views across to Cockatoo Island and the Parramatta River are excellent, and the Dawn Fraser Baths sit just below it on the shoreline.
It is a quiet local park rather than a tourist sight — good for a picnic, a walk along the foreshore path, or simply a pause on a circuit of the peninsula. The grand Victorian gates on Glassop Street are a reminder it has served the neighbourhood for well over a century.
