The Paddington Markets have run every Saturday since 1973 in the grounds and hall of the Paddington Uniting Church on Oxford Street, and they remain one of the best markets in Sydney for discovering local designers before they hit the boutiques. Around 150 stalls sell fashion, jewellery, ceramics, art and artisan food, with a long history of launching Australian designers — several well-known labels started here from a trestle table.
It is as much a Paddington institution as a shopping trip, busiest from mid-morning, and easily combined with a wander through the surrounding terrace streets and the galleries and boutiques along Oxford Street.
