Picnic Bay is one of Magnetic Island's older resort settlements, quieter than Horseshoe Bay and more nostalgic than Nelly Bay. The long jetty, beach, palms and views back toward the mainland give it an easy, slightly faded charm.
It is a good stop on an island circuit, especially if you want a swim, a meal or a slower waterfront walk away from the busier ferry arrival area. The bay is also a reminder that Magnetic Island has several distinct moods within a small area, from koala bushland to holiday beaches and old seaside villages.
