Beauty Point sits on the western bank of the Tamar River, north of Launceston, with a working wharf and low houses facing the water. It is not a big town, and it does not pretend to be one. Its appeal is unusually specific: two small wildlife attractions on the waterfront make it one of Tasmania's easiest places to get a careful look at animals most travellers only hope to glimpse.
Platypus House focuses on platypuses and echidnas, both famously awkward to see well in the wild. Next door, Seahorse World turns a working seahorse breeding facility into a guided visit with tanks, touch pools, and marine life from the Tamar and Bass Strait.
Beauty Point works well as a half-day from Launceston or as a stop on a slow Tamar Valley drive. Pair it with Beaconsfield, George Town, Low Head, or the vineyards if you want to make a full day of the river.
