Barn Bluff is the striking mountain south of Cradle Mountain, seen by many walkers on the first stage of the Overland Track. Its isolated shape makes it a strong visual marker in a landscape of moorland, tarns, and changing cloud.
Climbing it is a serious side trip and conditions decide whether it is sensible. Even from below, it gives the Cradle Mountain area a broader frame: this is not one famous peak, but a whole highland system stretching south through the national park.
