November to April is the main walking season, with longer daylight and the best odds of settled weather. It is also when the Overland Track is most tightly managed and bookings matter.
Winter brings snow, ice, and a quieter, harsher beauty. Short walks can still be rewarding, but alpine routes require proper gear and judgement. Weather changes fast in every season, so do not plan Cradle Mountain as a fair-weather guarantee.
