Mount Ossa

Mount Ossa is Tasmania's highest peak, rising to 1,617 m in the Central Highlands. It is usually climbed as a side trip from the Overland Track, with the route leaving Pelion Gap for a steep final ascent.

The summit is a serious mountain walk rather than a casual lookout. Weather can change quickly, especially in winter, and the upper section includes a short scramble. In clear conditions, the reward is a wide view over the wild heart of the Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair area.
