The Broome Historical Society Museum on Saville Street is a compact local history museum that covers the town's remarkable past — the pearling industry, the attack on Broome by Japanese aircraft in 1942, the multicultural communities that settled here, and the Aboriginal history of the region.
The collection includes photographs, artefacts, and documents from the pearling era, as well as material on the 1942 attack in which Japanese Zero fighters destroyed dozens of flying boats sheltering in Roebuck Bay and killed at least 88 people. The museum is run by volunteers and is modest in size but well-curated. A good complement to the Pearl Luggers museum a short walk away.
