Broome has two seasons: the dry (April/May to October) and the wet (November to March). The dry season is overwhelmingly the better time to visit. Temperatures are warm rather than scorching (25–30°C), humidity is low, the beach is swimmable without stinger nets, and most activities and tours are running at full capacity. This is also when the Staircase to the Moon occurs (March–October, around the full moon).
June and July are peak season — the most comfortable weather, every business open, and the most visitors. Book accommodation well ahead if you're visiting during the Shinju Matsuri festival in August or September.
The wet season (November–March) is hot, humid, and prone to cyclones. Stingers make swimming at Cable Beach dangerous without protection. Some tour operators close entirely. The landscape turns lush and green and the light is extraordinary, but road access to some areas is cut off by flooding. Flying in is fine; driving on bush tracks is not.
