The Carnarvon Space and Technology Centre is the town's great surprise. It tells the story of the Carnarvon Tracking Station and the Overseas Telecommunications Commission satellite earth station, both part of Australia's role in early space communications and the Apollo era.
The displays are hands-on and a little eccentric in the best regional-museum way. Come for the big dish history, stay for the sense that this dusty coastal town once had a direct line into the space race.
