One Mile Jetty

Historic export jetty and museum precinct from Carnarvon's wool, livestock, and tramway era.

One Mile Jetty is Carnarvon's classic heritage sight, stretching from Babbage Island across the shallow coastal flats. The jetty itself has had access changes over time, but the precinct tells the bigger story through the museum, rail displays, lighthouse keeper's cottage, and old port setting.

It is a good first stop because it explains why Carnarvon grew here at all. Before reliable roads and trucking, this was a sea outlet for wool, livestock, and supplies from a vast hinterland.

A story
Carnarvon's shallow coast made shipping awkward, so the jetty pushed far out across the flats to reach workable water. In the 1920s, huge amounts of Western Australia's wool passed through this remote-looking structure.
