Fruit Loop

Plantation-road circuit through Carnarvon's banana, mango, vegetable, and roadside-stall country.

The Fruit Loop is the local name for the plantation roads along the Gascoyne River, where underground water supports bananas, mangoes, grapes, vegetables, and small roadside stalls. It is a simple drive, but it makes Carnarvon feel less like an arid highway town and more like an oasis.

Go during the main produce season if you can, roughly the cooler middle of the year. What is open changes, so treat it as a slow wander for fruit, preserves, ice cream, and a better sense of the river country.
