Sunset Beach

Sunset Beach, about five kilometres north of Geraldton, is calmer than Back Beach and better suited for swimming, snorkelling, and general beach use. The reef offers reasonable snorkelling with good visibility in the mornings before any swell picks up. The sunsets here — looking west across the Indian Ocean — are characteristically Western Australian: vivid orange and pink, lasting a long time, and often watched from the car park by people who have brought a six-pack.

The beach is popular with local families and has toilets and basic facilities. If the afternoon wind at Back Beach is too much, this is where people come for a quieter end to the day.
