The most compelling reason to eat in Geraldton is also the simplest: fresh rock lobster. The city's crayfishing fleet works the reefs between the Abrolhos Islands and the mainland, and during the season (mid-November through June), you can buy live crayfish straight from the boats at the harbour at prices that would seem impossible in any restaurant. Boil them at your accommodation or track down a local who'll cook one — no sauce required. Several restaurants and cafes on the foreshore serve crayfish properly, though at corresponding prices.
