Geraldton has a small public bus network, but a car is by far the most practical way to get around. The city's attractions are spread out, and the beaches and the HMAS Sydney Memorial in particular require your own transport. Car hire is available from the airport and at several local offices.
The city centre and foreshore are walkable once you are there. The walk from the city centre to the WA Museum and along the foreshore to the Batavia Coast Marina takes about 20 minutes. Cycling is feasible in the cooler months but the afternoon wind makes it hard going in summer.
