Northbridge is the inner-city entertainment and dining hub of Perth, immediately north of the city centre across the railway lines. It is where Perth goes at night — the neighbourhood holds the highest concentration of restaurants, bars, clubs, and live music venues in the city. The main drag is William Street and the streets radiating off it, lined with everything from Vietnamese and Italian restaurants to craft beer bars and late-night clubs. The Chinatown district around James Street is the best place in the city for cheap, late-night Southeast Asian food.
By day, Northbridge has a different character: the Perth Cultural Centre sits on its southern edge, anchoring the Art Gallery of Western Australia, the WA Museum Boola Bardip, and the State Theatre Centre. The area has a real mix of people — students, recent immigrants, artists, and workers from the nearby CBD — and it is livelier and more interesting than most of Perth's suburban centres. It is a practical and well-positioned base for exploring the city.
