Barracks Arch is the surviving gateway of an 1866 Tudor-style barracks built for the Enrolled Pensioner Guard. The rest of the complex was demolished in the 1960s for the Mitchell Freeway, leaving the arch as an isolated but memorable piece of colonial Perth.
It is a quick stop near the western edge of the city centre. The interest is less in the scale of the monument than in the way it marks a piece of Perth that was almost entirely cut away.
