Nadi Produce Market

The covered municipal market off Main Street is the busiest, most local corner of Nadi. Saturday morning is peak: a wall of taro, cassava, sugar bananas, papayas, dalo leaves, sweet pineapples; women on the floor sorting chillies; tables piled with the green peppercorn-like grog (kava root) sold in neat bunches by the kilo.

Even if you are not shopping, it is worth a wander for the colour and the smell of fresh produce in the tropical heat. The upstairs houses craft stalls — woven baskets, masi (tapa) cloth, shell necklaces — at prices well below what the airport shops charge.
