Ouen Toro

Hilltop park with panoramic views of Nouméa's bays and lagoon

Ouen Toro is a small park on the highest point of Nouméa's southern peninsula, about a 30-minute walk from the Anse Vata beach strip. The panoramic views from the summit are the best in the city — on a clear day you can see across all of Nouméa's bays, out to the reef, and south to the Île aux Canards and beyond. It is the ideal spot for sunset.

The park itself has walking trails through coastal scrub, with interpretive signs about the local flora. A small roadway leads to the top for those who prefer to drive, and there are picnic tables near the summit. The old French fortifications from the Second World War period are still visible on the hillside. It is rarely crowded and makes a good contrast to the beach-front bustle below.
