Parc Forestier

Zoo and botanical park with cagou birds and lagoon views

A zoological and botanical park on the hill above central Nouméa, showcasing New Caledonia's unique flora and fauna — flightless cagou birds (the national symbol), kagu, fruit bats, and a collection of the island's extraordinary endemic conifers. The walk around takes an hour or two and the views across the lagoon from the higher paths are first-class. A small tourist train runs up from the city centre four times a day.
