Berat is small enough to explore entirely on foot. The town centre, Mangalem quarter, and Gorica quarter are all within easy walking distance of each other. The climb to the castle from the town centre takes 20 to 30 minutes on the cobbled path through Mangalem; the path is well-signed and the main route is clear.
Taxis are available in the town centre for trips to Gorica or for those who do not want to walk the hill. Local drivers can also be arranged for day trips to Ardenica and Apollonia, though shared transport back is harder to find — confirm return arrangements in advance.
