Berat is about 120 kilometres south of Tirana and is served by regular furgon (shared minibus) and bus services from the capital. The journey takes around 2 hours and buses depart from the Kombinat terminal in Tirana. There is no train connection — Albanian rail service does not reach this part of the country. Berat's bus station is at the edge of the town centre, a 10-minute walk from the Mangalem quarter.
By car from Tirana, take the SH4 south through Lushnje and Fier; the road is now reasonably good though single-lane in sections. From the coast, Berat is about an hour from Fier and 90 minutes from Vlora. There is no direct bus from the coast.
