Housed in a four-storey tower house on the site of the birthplace of Enver Hoxha — Albania's communist dictator from 1944 to 1985 — the Ethnographic Museum does an excellent job of recreating the daily life of a prosperous 19th-century Gjirokastër family. Each room is laid out with the period textiles, costumes, copperware, and carved wooden ceilings that defined the local style. The house itself (a 1966 reconstruction of the original, which burned in 1916) is as interesting as the collection. Closed Mondays; small entry fee.
