Gjirokaster Mosque

Gjirokaster Mosque stands in the old bazaar area and is one of the city's reminders of how hard Albania's communist period was on religious life. It survived the national campaign against religion because of its local importance, though it was stripped of its original role and used for circus training.

After the 1990s it returned to Muslim use, connected with religious education as well as worship. It is a small stop, but a meaningful one if you are walking between the bazaar, the Cold War Tunnel, and the castle.
