National Museum of Medieval Art

This is one of Albania's best museums and the strongest single reason to come to Korçë. The collection — over 7,000 icons, manuscripts, textiles, and ecclesiastical objects spanning the 13th to 19th centuries — is shown in a modern building that opened in 2016 after years of renovation.

The highlights are the icon galleries: panels by the Onufri school (16th-century Berat) and other Albanian masters, hung in low light against dark walls. Allow at least 90 minutes. Labels are bilingual Albanian-English, and the gift shop sells some of the best reproductions you'll find anywhere in the country.

A story
The museum holds more than 7,000 objects — the largest collection of Byzantine and post-Byzantine sacred art in Albania, much of it gathered from monasteries and village churches in the 1970s by communist-era curators who were, paradoxically, the only people legally permitted to handle such material at the time.
