Korçë's interest sits between two strands: an Ottoman past visible in the old bazaar and the Mirahor Mosque, and a francophile turn-of-the-century streak left over from the French protectorate and the lyceum tradition. The cathedrals are 1990s concrete answers to communist demolition, but the museums — particularly Medieval Art and Education — are unusually good. Outside town, the frescoed churches of Voskopojë and the ridges around lake Prespa make solid day trips.
