The restaurants along the Pogradec promenade serve fresh fish from Lake Ohrid, and the koran trout — an endemic species found only in this lake — is the dish the town is known for. It is typically grilled and served simply, which is the right approach. The fish restaurants are plainly decorated and inexpensive by Western European standards. Some also serve carp and eel from the lake, along with grilled meat dishes for those who prefer. Fresh yoghurt (kos) and salted white cheese (djathë i bardhë) appear at almost every meal.
