Getting There

Garni is 28 km east of Yerevan, about 40 minutes by car on the Yerevan-Garni highway. From the city:

By marshrutka: Minibus 266 runs from Yerevan's Gai market (near Gortsaranayin metro station) to Garni and continues to Geghard. Departures are frequent in the morning and taper off in the afternoon; check return times before going. The journey takes about 50 minutes.

By taxi or car: Taxis from Yerevan centre cost around 3,000–4,000 AMD each way. Many visitors arrange a round trip with a driver who waits at both sites. Rental cars are available in Yerevan for those who want to explore the region independently.

Organised tours: Half-day and full-day tours from Yerevan combining Garni and Geghard are widely available and reasonably priced. They typically handle the logistics efficiently but give limited time at each site.

Most visitors combine Garni with Geghard Monastery, 8 km further up the valley — a spectacular cave monastery carved partly into the cliff face, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The two sites together fill a half-day comfortably.
