By air
Zvartnots International Airport (EVN) is 12km west of central Yerevan. It handles the vast majority of international arrivals. Yerevan has direct flights to over 40 cities, including Moscow, Istanbul, Dubai, Paris, Vienna, Rome, Frankfurt, Athens, Beirut, and Tel Aviv. There are no direct flights from North America; most travellers connect through Istanbul, Frankfurt, or Moscow.
The main carriers are Armenian carriers Fly One Armenia and Flyone, along with Turkish Airlines, Wizz Air, Ryanair, Lufthansa, Air France, and several Middle Eastern airlines. Budget options have increased significantly in recent years, particularly on European routes. Flights to and from Russia remain frequent but geopolitically complicated.
A taxi from the airport to central Yerevan costs around 3,000–4,000 AMD (roughly $8–10 USD). Use the GG Taxi or Yandex Go apps to avoid being overcharged. There are also city buses.
By land
The only open land borders are with Georgia to the north and Iran to the south.
Frequent marshrutkas and shared taxis run between Yerevan and Tbilisi (approximately 6–7 hours). The road passes through some spectacular scenery but does involve a crossing of the Georgian border, which can be slow. The overnight train between Yerevan and Tbilisi is another option and offers a more comfortable journey, though it takes longer.
The Yerevan–Tehran route via the Meghri border crossing is used mainly by commercial vehicles and travellers with specific reasons to cross; the roads are long and the crossing process can be time-consuming.
The borders with Turkey and Azerbaijan are closed and have been for decades. There is no legal overland connection between Armenia and either country. Travellers who have a stamp from Azerbaijan or Northern Cyprus in their passport may encounter difficulties at Armenian immigration, though the situation has become somewhat less strict in recent years.

Citizens of EU member states, the USA, Russia, and many other countries enter visa-free for up to 180 days. Citizens of other countries can obtain an e-visa in advance at evisa.mfa.am. Check current requirements before travelling — the list of visa-exempt nationalities changes.
