Tsakhats Kar Monastery sits high above the Yeghegis valley, reached by rough tracks and hiking routes rather than casual roadside sightseeing. The surviving churches and ruins date mainly from the medieval Armenian period, with carved stone, khachkars, and broken walls scattered across a mountain slope.
The reward is partly the site and partly the approach. Many travellers combine it with Smbataberd fortress, making a tough but memorable walk through one of Vayots Dzor's best historical landscapes. Bring water, sun protection, and realistic expectations about road conditions; this is not a polished monastery stop.
