Yeghegis is a rewarding village stop in the canyon below Smbataberd. Its most unusual sight is Zorats Church, a medieval church designed for a congregation standing outdoors, with the altar raised as if for mounted soldiers.
The village also has smaller churches, an ancient Jewish cemetery across the river, and a strong sense of rural Vayots Dzor life. It pairs naturally with Smbataberd and Tsakhats Kar Monastery.
