Megerian Carpet Factory

Address 9 Mher Mkrtchyan Street

One of the few working traditional Armenian carpet workshops left, founded by the Megerian family in New Jersey in the 1980s and re-established in Armenia after independence. Tours of the factory show the entire process: wool sorting and washing, natural dyeing using pomegranate, walnut, and madder root, and weavers at the looms producing carpets in classical Armenian patterns.

There is a shop attached selling the finished pieces — at prices that reflect the months of hand work involved. Even if you are not buying, the tour is a fascinating window onto a craft that has nearly disappeared elsewhere in the region. Open daily; book tours ahead.
