Hallstatt's restaurants are nearly all in the centre of the village, occupying the ground floors of the colourful houses along the lake. Most lean strongly to Austrian Alpine cuisine — Wiener schnitzel, lake fish (Reinanke and Saibling), Kaiserschmarrn for pudding — and most are aimed at the tour-bus crowd, which means quality is uneven and prices are well above what you would pay in a comparable village inland.
