Leopoldstadt

Leopoldstadt, Vienna's Second District, sits on an island between the Danube and the Danube Canal and is best known for the Prater — a vast public park anchored by the Wurstelprater amusement area and its iconic Riesenrad, the giant ferris wheel immortalized in "The Third Man." Beyond the rides, the Prater's long chestnut-lined Hauptallee stretches for five kilometers and is a favorite for joggers and cyclists. The neighborhood's other draw is the Karmelitermarkt, a neighborhood market that has become a hub for Vienna's emerging food scene — Israeli street food, natural wine bars, and specialty cheese stalls cluster around its edges. Leopoldstadt has a layered history as Vienna's historic Jewish quarter and is now one of the city's most rapidly changing areas, with a younger, more diverse population moving in. The Danube Canal waterfront has become a summer hotspot with beach bars, street art, and pop-up venues.
