A smaller, less touristy market than the Naschmarkt, on the south side of Leopoldstadt. The Karmelitermarkt has been overrun (in the best sense) by a new generation of food businesses — Tewa for modern Israeli, Skopik & Lohn next door for innovative Viennese, several specialist cheesemongers, and a Saturday farmers' market that draws the city's chefs.
The crowd is younger and the vibe is more neighbourhood than tourist. Closed Sundays. U-Bahn: Taborstrasse.
