The Mausoleum of Huseyn Javid is a white marble monument to Azerbaijan's most celebrated playwright, who was arrested during the Stalinist purges and died in a Siberian labour camp in 1941. His remains were brought back to Nakhchivan in 1982 and the mausoleum was completed in 1993. It stands near his house museum and has become one of the defining landmarks of the city, representing both cultural pride and the memory of Soviet repression. The house museum adjacent contains manuscripts, photographs, and personal effects.

A story
Huseyn Javid died in a Stalinist labour camp in Magadan in 1941. His remains were brought home to Nakhchivan in 1982 thanks to lobbying by Heydar Aliyev, then the Soviet leader of Azerbaijan and Javid's distant relative. The white marble mausoleum that followed is one of very few in Azerbaijan dedicated to a writer rather than a ruler.
