The State Flag Square is a vast paved plaza dominated by an enormous Azerbaijani flag flying from one of the tallest flagpoles in the country. The attached museum is housed beneath the square and contains exhibits on Azerbaijani statehood, the national flag, coats of arms, and historic banners. It is one of several similar flag squares built across Azerbaijan in the 2010s as a national-pride project.
The square itself is a popular evening promenade for locals, particularly families. Architecturally it is more about scale than subtlety, but the views back towards the city and the surrounding mountains are good, and the museum offers a quick orientation to the symbols of modern Azerbaijani national identity.
