Djalil Mammadkulizade Literature Museum

Small museum honoring Azerbaijan's satirical literary master

Address Djalikend, Sharur District

A modest museum in the village of Djalikend dedicated to Djalil Mammadkulizade, one of Azerbaijan's most important writers and satirists. Mammadkulizade founded the influential literary magazine Molla Nasreddin in 1906 and used sharp humor to critique social backwardness and religious hypocrisy. The museum, established in 1987 in the local school, holds around 600 items including manuscripts, personal effects, and photographs. It is a quiet stop that rewards anyone with an interest in Azerbaijani literature and the cultural ferment of the early twentieth century.
