Grand Place

The Grand Place is the beating heart of Soignies — a modest but genuinely pleasant town square lined with cafes and flanked by the town hall. It is nothing like the theatrical grandeur of Brussels' Grand-Place, but that is rather the point: this is a living Walloon market square, used by locals, not set-dressed for tourists. On weekday mornings a small market fills part of the square. In the evening, the cafe terraces come to life and the collegiate church looms at one end, lit dramatically after dark.

A good place to sit with a Belgian beer and watch Soignies go about its business.
