The narrow lane along the riverbank south of the old market is the surviving fragment of Visoko's once-famous tannery district. The town was the leather and shoemaking capital of the Ottoman Bosnian provinces, and at its peak a hundred tabhana workshops operated here, drawing water from the Fojnička.
A handful are still in business, run by families who have been in the trade for generations. The smell of curing leather still drifts from the doorways.
