Things to Do

Sozopol is small and split in two: the Old Town on the rocky peninsula, with its narrow stone-paved lanes and 19th-century wooden houses, and the newer Harmanite district on the mainland behind the harbour, with the bigger beach and most of the modern hotels. Almost everything worth seeing is in the Old Town or on the small offshore islands. The town has been continuously inhabited for 2,600 years; you find pieces of that history everywhere — Greek pottery in a small museum, a Thracian altar uncovered at a building site, the relics of John the Baptist found in 2010 on an island off the coast.
