When to Go

Baška has a long swimming season by Mediterranean standards. The sea warms to comfortable bathing temperatures by late May and stays warm into early October. July and August are reliably hot — daytime highs in the low 30s — and the town is at full holiday capacity, with the beach packed and the boulevard restaurants booked out.

The shoulder months are better. June and September give you the same clear water and good weather without the crowds; prices for accommodation drop by a third. Spring (April–May) is the best time for the hiking trails inland, when the karst is briefly green and the wildflowers are out. Winter is quiet — many places close — but the bora wind can roar through the Bašćanska Draga valley with extraordinary force.
