Vis has more genuinely good beaches than it has space to advertise them. The coast is mostly pebbles and rocks rather than sand, with the dramatic cove at Stiniva on the south side as the famous one. Stončica on the eastern tip is the nearest thing to a sand beach and works well for families. Srebrna and Zaglav, both on the south coast and accessed by boat or footpath, are quieter alternatives to Stiniva. Smaller hidden coves along the entire southern shore reward anyone willing to follow a track for fifteen minutes.
