Getting Around

Vis is small — roughly 17 kilometres across at its widest — but the interior roads are slow and winding. A rental car (book ahead, the supply is limited) is the most flexible option; a scooter is the local choice for solo travellers and couples without much luggage. Both can be picked up near the ferry port in Vis town.

A local bus service connects Vis town and Komiža several times a day via the central spine road. Taxis are available but expensive and few in number. The best way to see the coast and the offshore beaches is by hiring a small boat from either harbour — no licence is required for the smallest skiffs — or by joining one of the boat-tour operators based in Komiža.
