Makarska has one of the more animated bar scenes on the Dalmatian coast, fuelled by the young crowds who descend on the town in July and August. The Riva is the natural starting point — the waterfront promenade fills each evening with the passeggiata-style crowd that is a fixture of Croatian coastal towns, moving slowly between the café terraces and the sea wall. At the far end of the Riva, a cluster of open-air cocktail bars pump music into the night and serve as the warm-up before the clubs get going after midnight. The Friday "Fisherman's Night" on the Riva is a summer tradition, with music and local entertainment running late.
